Reflection
Understanding the fundamentals of doctoral research design began in my first course, Introduction to Doctoral Research and Design, and deepened throughout the program as I explored various resources and methods for conducting dissertation research. From the beginning, I learned that the development of Chapter 2—the literature review—would be an ongoing process, refined and expanded as my research focus evolved. This proved to be true, as each subsequent course built upon those foundational research design principles.
Activities such as the Comprehensive Literature Search Strategy, the Annotated Bibliography and its accompanying form, and the Study Proposal strengthened my ability to locate, evaluate, and synthesize scholarly sources. These experiences enhanced my understanding of research alignment and methodology while improving my ability to connect theory to practice.
Through this foundation, I developed a solid grasp of how effective research design informs the overall quality of a dissertation. I am now more confident in designing studies that are methodologically sound, well-supported by literature, and capable of contributing meaningful insights to the field of educational leadership.
